I was on vacation last week, but were back this week and have some High 5’s to give out! So here we go!!
Our good buddy Evan Davis gets a Hot High 5 to try to warm him up after taking a Polar Plunge on March 1 at Holmes Lake in Lincoln. As if the water wasn’t cold it enough, if I recall on that day the temperature was in the single digits. Evan and his brother Philip did this together and along with proving to everyone they were crazy enough to do this stunt, they also raised over $1000 for Special Olympics! A crazy thing to do, but a great thing to do to help raise funds for Special Olympics! High 5 Evan….and we better give Philip one too!!
Our next High 5 goes out to Sasquatch!! Well he looked like Sasquatch!! We’re talking about our little friend Kyler Dean. Last weekend around 120 O’Neill kids and adults headed to Terry Peak for Spring Break Skiing! Along with all the spills and thrills on High 5 Friday a furry creature appeared on the slopes and brought laughs and smiles to all that saw him in a brown blur headed down the hill on his skis! Of course we had to get a High 5 from our furry friend!! It’s the little things that make a trip memorable and fun and Kyler definitely did that!! High 5 Kyler!!
Here’s a High 5 to our favorite cool guy….George Holm from Dairy Queen in O’Neill. George is always doing great things in our area for organizations, churches, teams and individuals. Well this time George wants to finish up the campaign to raise the funds to build the Northeast Community College Extended Campus in O’Neill. And were just about there!! But we need about $150,000 to finish it off! This week George delivered over 60 ice cream buckets, not full of ice cream, but hoping to get filled with donations to get us to the goal. George calls it “Pay It Forward Today, For a Brighter Future Tomorrow” and he couldn’t be more correct. This facility will help keep residents young and old alike in our area where they will be able to get a college education along with all the other fun and informational courses that they offer today. So next week when you are visiting our local businesses and see an ice cream bucket with the picture of the new facility on it, please donate. Whether it’s $5, $100, $10,000 or just your pocket change, every little bit will count and we hope to hit the $150,000 left by the end of the month! And when you see our ole buddy George, give him a High 5! Hit the goal and I’ll bet he’ll give you a High 10!!! High 5 George!!

And we’ll give out 6 High 5’s to the O’Neill High School Quiz Bowl Team. Members are Maranda Winter, Kristy Tompkins, Myles Stagemeyer, Jon Hunt, Collin Nemec and Shea Lueninghoener. This team competed in the ESU 8 Quiz bowl on March 12. Now there were 21 teams that competed and the O’Neill High School team came away with the 1st place trophy. They also qualified for the State Competition in Holdredge. Well if you’ve ever been to a quiz bowl, you know the teams take it seriously and the questions are tough. I have enough trouble watching the Price Is Right, so you know these kids really study hard to compete at this level! High 5 OHS Quiz Bowl Team and Good Luck at State!!
That’s it for this week’s edition of “The High 5”! Now I’m counting on all of you to go out there today, enjoy the spring like weather and give at least 5 High 5’s today!!
High 5!!
Scott
P.S. Along with knowing I would not be a good quiz bowl team member, I also commit a few typos in this blog. So until my sister Cindy Morales reads this and e-mails me back my errors, I apologize for any blunders!!
